Littlehempston, St John the Baptist

Littlehempston church, from the west.

1. Compass drawn circles (red highlight). North arcade pier.

2. Arrows. North arcade pier.

3. M-type symbol (red highlight) with triangular features above. South arcade pier.

4. Deeply cut letters V X Z. North arcade pier base.

5. Neatly scribed letter W, possibly a masons mark. South arcade pier.

6. Remnants of red paint survive within scored possible lettering. South arcade pier.

7. Multiple holes, and large letter R (red highlight). South arcade pier.

8. Figure, possibly a skeleton, or person holding a shield? South arcade pier.

9. Probable initials, with 1770 & 1768 dates. South arcade pier.

10. Graffiti on the female effigy.

11. Detail of graffiti on the female effigy. Probable initials PL, also overlapping W's or V's on their sides (possible Marian marks).

12. Concentric circles, holes & other marks. Male (south) effigy.

13. Merchants mark & other graffiti on the male (north) effigy.

14. Initials with 1906 & 1909 dates. Tower roof doorway lead.
